Doomsday- December 21, 2012?

Published by bluerose at 11:24 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

It is somewhat in our nature to wonder “when is the end?” Some say millions of years, some say centuries, and others seem fixated on a particular date: December 21, 2012.

Why is this? Well- there are several factors that supporters say prove that the world will end on December 21, 2012.

Supporters of this theory argue that:

  • The date represents an extremely close conjunction with the crossing point at the center of the Milky Way and the Path of the Sun. This is what the Mayans recognized as the sacred tree. It will occur at 11:11 AM GMT. It is thought that with the sun rising in the center of the universe, a black hole could cause extremely destructive damage to the world.
  • The Web-bot project predicts something catastrophic happening at the end of 2012. This is a project designed in the 1990s as a stock predictor. It has “predicted”  9-11, the tsunami of 2004, anthrax in DC, massive east coast power outage of 2003 and Hurricane Katrina.
  • Numerous premonitions from the Sybil-Roman Oracle, Merlin, Mother Shipton, the Bible and Hopi- all with correlations to time periods around 2012 and all with similar doomsday themes- war, death, evil,  fire, darkness.
  • Poll Shifting could be currently happening beneath our feet. It is thought that perhaps this has happened several times over the Earth’s life, and may be an explanation for global warming. Such an event could be cause of mass extinction.

In regards to my own thoughts on the above evidence- I don’t feel very secure in any of it. Sure, we can all play around with numbers until we find one that matches our argument. Sure the Mayan calendar theory may seem strangely coincidental, but couldn’t it also be true that the Mayans simply ended the calendar at the end of that cycle? That that is just where they chose to end it, instead of continuously writing for centuries and centuries beyond their existence? It would clearly have to end at some point. As for the web-bot, I have little faith in machines predicting the future. In fact, it just reminds me of all the Terminator shows lately. Prophesies are, at times, incredible. However, they can also be construed to fit individual opinions, so they are not ultimately reliable.

Now the one theory I do somewhat agree with is pole shifting. It would explain the causes of global warming and ice age cycles. However, I do not believe that such a shift would happen so quickly as to cause 8.6 level earthquakes worldwide or that suddenly in an hour that Canada would be in the middle of the north pole.  I think that this would definitely be a gradual thing, if it’s even accurate.

Now, not to be so cynical, but why do I really feel like we are revisiting the whole Y2K thing all over again? It is as if we must live in fear to feel like we understand what is happening. I do think that someday something might happen that will likely end human existence, but I strongly feel that it will most likely be because of our own doing.

So is this a valid mystery? For now it must be. We’ll just have to see what happens on December 21, 2012!
